On Saturday, I made my first trip to Enduro Sport, the local spot for multisport gear. I needed a few of the essentials for this new game, and after drooling over some of the suh-weet Cervelo rigs, I gathered some new pieces for my collection of equipment. A proper swimsuit will be an upgrade from my boardshorts, and I'll probably be faster. Tri-shirt and shorts should be comfy on the bike, without feeling like I'm wearing a diaper on the run. Since I had so confidently gathered all my purchases, as I was checking out, the clerk said, "So, you've been here before?" I guess I look the part, at least. Probably was the Rudy Project shades and my NYC marathon tune-up shirt. They didn't know how slow I'd run the next day.
I've got goggles, a bike, and some shoes ... now what?
Rudy Project shades are sweet.
ReplyDeleteI've got an Orca trisuit (one piece -- but sleeveless, of course) with an extra-thin chamois that kinda sucks on the bike, but at least it doesn't get in the way during the run. Sadly, the suit no longer fits me.
What model of Cervélo will you eventually end up giving in to buying? A delicious P3 Carbon?
I did my last race of the season today... the local Hill Climb TT. It went surprisingly well. I'll post a race report soon.
I love my Rudys. I need a new pair. I almost talked myself into some while in Banff, but regret it now.
ReplyDeleteI assume the "no longer fits" is too big, since you've got the Ebola virus or whatever your colleagues think it is.
If I went with a Cervelo, it would be a P2SL, as that's all in my price range (although I left drool marks on the $7500 P3C). Since I want the FIST fit that can be done at Gears, I'll probably end up with Specialized or Kuota.
I thought you were doing Terra Cotta. I was going to come out and cheer or something. Have you been racing all summer? There's been no RRs, so it's been tough to keep up.
Yeah, the suit no longer fits because I weight about 150 lbs... rather than the 165 I weighed when I bought it. (Oh, and I think it's Marburg, not Ebola).
ReplyDeleteThe P2SL is a pretty sweet piece of kit. I've promised myself that if I get tenure, I'm buying a TT bike. So, here's hoping that I get tenure.
The plan to do Terra Cotta was made in the salad days of the summer when I actually had the tiny possibility of weekends off. With classes starting this week, I've realized there is almost no chance of me getting any more races in before the season ends. I've also got a student doing a bio thesis that needs to do some very delicate and time-sensitive labwork in September... and I dare not leave him unsupervised for any length of time (I really can't afford to redo the experiment).
Sadly, the lack of RRs has been due to the lack of racing. I managed to maintain my training schedule, but with conference travel and other work-related commitments, I just haven't been able to fit in any races. I was feeling pretty frustrated about that last week, but I guess I'm a professional scientist and not a professional cyclist.
I just learned that Endurosport, the sellers of Cervelo, are also FIST certified. This changes everything. I may go back and check on the P2SL or P2C. I'll say it's "supporting Canadian industry".
