With travel set for November 5, I'm only 14 days away from heading south. It continues to get a little more real. It'll be a nice vacation, with five hours of heavy sweating in the middle of it.
Just a quick little run this afternoon to keep the legs loose, and a nice swim. No particularly hard work in the swim, but lots of time to work on form without killing myself. The pool continues to be crowded. I think the turn in the weather is driving people inside, and they all want to be in the 'fast' lane.
But I have to ask: what kind of ass do you have to be to do butterfly in a crowded lane swim? I almost appreciate getting to practice dealing with the big swells, but come on! Are people that hard up for attention that this is how they choose to get it?

I feel your pain. My lunchtime swims have gone from 1-2 people sharing a lane (sometimes even a whole lane to myself!) to 3-5 people per lane.
I go in with a workout plan and... it's absolutely impossible to implement it. Every workout is the same: 2-3k at whatever speed is dictated by the idiots that I'm sharing a lane with. Nothing like a guy wearing big baggy swim trunks doing DOG PADDLE in the "moderately fast swimmers" lane (yes, this actually happened on Tuesday).
Still, I shouldn't complain. I count myself lucky to even have access to a such a facility at my place of work. A busy pool is better than no pool at all.
The guy doing butterfly hasn't progressed passed age 2. As he's swimming, he's singing in his head: "I am so great! Everybody loves me!".
I would love to share with only 3-5 people. There were points on Wednesday where you coulnd't touch the wall to turn due to all the resting alongside.
I can stick with my plan, if only because I'm willing to be the jerk who goes at my speed, takes off on my rest intervals, and will pass without apology. Oly two more to go.
